Building a chalet in Megève
Prestige chalets in local stone and charred larch, private spa and underground wine cellar, facing the Mont Blanc massif.
Our reading of the territory
What Megève asks of a chalet.
The village of the Rothschilds, Megève asks for tradition reinterpreted: low-pitched roofs, dressed stone, wood charred using the shou sugi ban technique, and palace-grade wellness indoors.
Megève’s planning rules are among the most demanding in the Alps. We have made them a grammar: roof pitch, the balance of stone and wood, roof overhangs are no longer constraints but the very measures of the project.
Megève’s planning rules are among the strictest in the Alps: roof pitches, overhangs, stone-to-wood proportions. We have turned them into a grammar rather than a constraint.
Our chalets pair a base of local stone — housing the spa, indoor pool and cellar — with a superstructure in charred larch whose anthracite tone answers the larches of Le Jaillet.
Every chalet receives a thermal envelope 40% beyond RE2020, sized for a snow load of 3.2 kN/m², with the site winterised on schedule between November and March.
The land
Mont d’Arbois, Rochebrune, Le Jaillet: three slopes, three lights, three markets. Vacant plots are becoming scarce and demolition and rebuilding is now the most common route. Before any acquisition we systematically check the right to rebuild like for like.
The way we build
A base of local stone housing the spa, indoor pool and cellar; a superstructure in larch charred using the shou sugi ban technique, whose anthracite answers the trunks of Le Jaillet. Reclaimed barn wood is reserved for the interiors, never applied to the facade.
Life in the house
A heated ski room on the lower level, a delivery access separate from the main entrance, a self-contained staff bedroom. A Megève chalet is lived in by twelve in February and four in July: the circulation has to absorb both.
Materials & permits
What we use, what we get permitted.
None of our Megève permits has been refused or appealed. Read early, the rules protect the project as much as the landscape.
Reference materials
The craftsmen of the Mont Blanc country
Traditional carpentry in Combloux, stonemasonry in Sallanches, larch charring in a workshop in Passy, ironwork and brushed brass in Saint-Gervais. The local master carpenters work with us all year round: that is what makes a three-month installation season possible.
What we handle for you
- Megève local plan (roofs, facades)
- Snow load zone H3
- Winter access & site winterisation
- Mont d’Arbois landscape perimeter
Rules read like a score
Megève’s local plan governs roof pitch, the length of overhangs, ridge height, the proportion of stone in the base and even the colour of the windows. The Mont d’Arbois area is also under landscape protection, which requires a detailed integration statement and simulations from public viewpoints. The snow load in zone H3 is sized at 3.2 kN/m², with snow guards required above entrances. We produce the drawings, natural ground sections and photomontages required, and present the project at the town hall before submission.
Application prepared by our Planning & Architecture team before any work is committed.

Allow 4 months of design and 3D modelling, 8 months of permit processing — the usual timescale for this territory — then 17 months on site for 300 m².
